Job Description

A cloud architect should have a deep understanding of IT, including networking, databases, servers, and security. With more and more companies turning to cloud solutions, experts will be needed to keep up with demand.

These positions can often be thought of as systems administrators for machines that are physically located at and owned by a company that specializes in cloud services, such as Amazon Web Services. Most cloud specialists understand how the different areas of IT fit together and are experts in both IT and cloud computing concepts.

Getting a Job

Server Administrators who study and learn about cloud computing are a natural fit for cloud positions. There should be a knowledge of fundamental cloud concepts, as well as specific knowledge about particular cloud vendors, like how the cloud vendor operates and how to set up machines using the cloud provider. Since many servers exist to produce or store data, an understanding of data storage and database concepts can be vital. Additionally, a knowledge of networking is important. To work for a cloud services company, an understanding of datacenters could also be required.
